A middle-aged Auckland executive has pleaded guilty to paying a 14-year-old girl for sexual activity after meeting her on Snapchat, where he presented himself as a “sugar daddy” and groomed her over several weeks.
Beginning in early September, the man requested and received dozens of intimate photos and videos from the teenager (who falsely claimed to be 17), paying her with Uber Eats orders and a $200 Prezzy Card in exchange.
On 21 September he arranged an Uber to bring her to his home, gave her $1,000 in cash, and engaged in sexual activity despite acknowledging she was under 18.
He then summoned the girl’s 14-year-old friend to the house and paid for both teens to be driven to a mall afterward.
The executive, whose name is suppressed and who has no prior convictions, claimed he did not believe he entered a formal contract for sex and has since lost his job; he faces up to seven years’ imprisonment when sentenced in March.
